{"id":12241,"date":"2026-10-08T11:11:42","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T00:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/?post_type=case_study&#038;p=12241"},"modified":"2026-10-08T11:17:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T00:17:11","slug":"port-of-mackay-container-depot","status":"publish","type":"case_study","link":"https:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/case-study\/port-of-mackay-container-depot\/","title":{"rendered":"Port of Mackay Container Depot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The new Port of Mackay Container Depot is a major infrastructure project designed to support containerised freight imports and exports for Central Queensland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">With a 1.3-hectare heavy-duty concrete laydown area adjacent to George Bell Drive, the depot has been designed for demanding port operations, including regular container handling, reach stacker movements and heavy vehicle traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Mascot Engineering was proud to supply heavy-duty access and drainage products for this important port infrastructure project.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Products Supplied<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Mascot Engineering Gastight Access Covers and Linear Trench Grate &amp; Frame<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">450mm clear opening <a href=\"https:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/products\/trench_grating\/\">ductile iron trench grate and frame systems<\/a> in 900kn load ratings (EN124 F900)<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/products\/access-covers\/concrete-infill-covers\/\">Gas &#8211; and watertight concrete infill access covers<\/a> in 900kn load ratings (EN124 F900)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Australian standards for load ratings is known as AS3996.\u00a0 This is their version of EN124.\u00a0 Class G products are rated to 900kN under AS3996:2019 and are comparable to EN F900 loading, making them suitable for heavy-duty infrastructure environments where extreme wheel loads and operational demands are expected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The gas- and watertight concrete infill covers provide secure, authorised service access while allowing the cover surface to be finished in line with the surrounding concrete hardstand.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Built for Heavy Infrastructure<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Ports, airports, intermodal terminals, and industrial hardstands rely on strong, reliable drainage and access infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Port of Mackay Container Depot required products capable of handling heavy traffic while supporting efficient surface water capture, secure access to underground services and long-term performance across a large hardstand and laydown area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Mascot\u2019s ductile iron trench grate and frame systems, together with gas- and watertight infill access covers, are designed for these types of applications, combining strength, durability, serviceability and hydraulic performance.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>F900 Capability<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Mascot Engineering has extensive experience manufacturing and supplying products for demanding civil and infrastructure projects to 900kN loadings throughout Asia Pacific.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">For port and airport environments, EN124 F900 trench grating and access covers provide the load performance required for heavy vehicles, container handling equipment, hardstand areas, tarmacs and other high-load zones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Mascot also has the capability to manufacture larger span trench grating, including 600mm, 750mm, 900mm, 1000mm, 1200mm and 1500mm clear openings, as well as multipart access covers in Class G loading to AS3996 and EN F900. This supports projects where heavy-duty performance is critical.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Designed for Tropical Rainfall Events<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In tropical and coastal environments such as Mackay, drainage infrastructure must be able to perform during intense rainfall events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Like other tropical regions, including parts of Southeast Asia such as Singapore, Mackay can experience heavy rainfall where large volumes of water need to be captured and moved quickly across hardstand and paved areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">For airports, defence projects, container depots, ports and logistics facilities, effective surface water capture is critical.
