{"id":9320,"date":"2021-02-15T10:30:23","date_gmt":"2021-02-14T23:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/?post_type=case_study&#038;p=9320"},"modified":"2021-03-10T14:08:44","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T03:08:44","slug":"newcastle-light-rail","status":"publish","type":"case_study","link":"https:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/case-study\/newcastle-light-rail\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcastle Light Rail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Light Rail Signal &amp; Smart Pole Pits<\/p>\n<p>The Newcastle Light Rail was key to the $650 million plan to revitalise the city centre of Newcastle.\u00a0 This high capacity and reliable service connects key precincts along the waterfront and the city with the desire to create urban renewal opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Mascot Engineering was chosen to supply numerous products on this project including <a href=\"http:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/products\/cable-pits\/cable-pit-sizes\/\">Mascot GRC Cable Pits<\/a> with Class D Composite Covers and <a href=\"http:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/products\/access-covers\/surface-fill-covers\/paver-infill-covers\/\">Paver Infill Covers<\/a> as well as custom precast Switchboard Bases.<\/p>\n<p>We worked closely with the contractor and designers to develop a Class D Composite Cover to suit our Mascot GRC Pit (P5 size) that was to be installed between the tracks throughout the rail corridor. \u00a0The specifications required that the cover must not be steel, or have any steel reinforcing as they could potentially interfere with the rail signals.\u00a0 As well as being suitable for a Class D load on the surface, there were side wall pressures that needed to be taken into account and the cover had to be boltdown to prevent unauthorised access.\u00a0 The composite covers developed were the first of their type and created specifically for this project.\u00a0 They\u2019re marked appropriately with \u2018Light Rail Signals\u2019 and finished in a grey colour to blend into the surrounds.<\/p>\n<p>The rail platforms, pedestrian crossings and footpaths feature our ductile iron Paver Infill Covers over our GRC Pits.\u00a0 Often manufactured from mild steel, our iron covers have been developed with durability in mind as well as a long design life\u2026 they wont bend or buckle during routine maintenance and feature Australian Standard Lifting Keyholes in each corner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/products\/custom-concrete\/\">Custom precast concrete Switchboard Bases<\/a> have also been installed along the rail corridor. \u00a0With skilled trades and manufacturing flexibility, we have the capabilities to produce products to the site design requirements without being limited by the moulds available.<\/p>\n<p>The Newcastle Light Rail took its first passengers in February 2019, the same month our Newcastle branch opened.\u00a0 Located in Tomago (just over the Hexham Bridge), Mascot Engineering Newcastle stocks GRC and Plastic Pits, Covers, Grating and Trade Waste Products.<\/p>\n<p>Our Newcastle branch employs a number of locals and cements our commitment to the region\u2026 With local delivery vehicles and technical expertise we look forward to supplying many more projects in the Greater Hunter Region and beyond.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mascotengineering.com\/sg\/newcastle-branch-now-open\/\">Click here<\/a> for details on our Newcastle Branch.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Light Rail Signal &amp; Smart Pole Pits The Newcastle Light Rail was key to the $650 million plan to revitalise the city centre of Newcastle.\u00a0 This high capacity and reliable service connects key precincts along the waterfront and the city with the desire to create urban renewal opportunities.
